Erica Roozendaal
Erica Roozendaal is an accordionist, visual artist, and theater maker. Within the versatility of all art forms, Erica sees herself primarily as a storyteller: expressing a story, an experience, or an emotion using the medium that best serves that purpose. Music is her main focus and always plays a role on stage.
Erica obtained her bachelor's and master's degrees at the Royal Conservatoire in The Hague. She also took lessons with Frode Haltli at the Norwegian Academy of Music in Oslo and with Iñaki Alberdi at Musikene in San Sebastián.
Erica mainly plays early music, contemporary music, and improvised music. She collaborates extensively with composers, which has led to dozens of new solo pieces and chamber music works. After studying classical music, she further developed her skills in folk and improvised music, including klezmer.
In 2016, she founded Roadrunner, an ensemble that operates at the intersection of contemporary, folk, and improvised music, with a strong emphasis on original compositions. Every year, they organize the Roadrunner Academy week, a week for young composers that concludes with a performance of the newly written pieces.
In the 2025/2026 season, Erica makes her debut at Dutch National Opera in the new production Atman!. It will premiere at Studio Boekman (Dutch National Opera & Ballet) on 21 December 2025.
