Joep Hupperetz

Joep Hupperetz obtained his Master's degree in Theatre Studies from the University of Amsterdam in 2021. During his studies, he worked as a dramaturg and librettist on the student opera IDIOSYNCRATIC for the Opera Forward Festival of Dutch National Opera. Joep also worked as a producer at JONG DeLaMar for two seasons.

Since 2020, he has been affiliated with Opera Zuid as a resident dramaturg, where he has collaborated on Lady in the Dark, Der Schauspieldirektor, Le Villi | Silenzio, and Die Dreigroschenoper, among others. He also worked as an assistant director on Blauwbaards Burcht.

In addition to his work at Opera Zuid, Joep recently collaborated on Salieri's Armida at Opera Nijetrijne. He adapted the script and did the dramaturgy for Die Rundköpfe und die Spitzköpfe, which was performed at Muziekgebouw aan 't IJ and at the Kurt Weill Fest in Dessau, among other venues. Last summer, Der Schauspieldirektor had its international premiere at the Buxton International Festival (UK). Last season, he also directed young talents in opera scenes during the first edition of the Netherlands Lyric Opera Festival.

In the 2025/2026 season, Joep works on the new youth production Atman!.
