Johannes Witt
Johannes Witt is a versatile conductor with a rapidly growing international reputation and a repertoire that includes a large number of operas, ballets and concert works. Initially trained as a percussionist and pianist, he went on to study conducting at the Hochschule für Musik und Tanz in Cologne and at the Rimsky-Korsakov Conservatory in St Petersburg.
Witt works regularly with leading European opera houses such as Dutch National Opera, Wiener Staatsoper, the Finnish National Opera, the Norwegian National Opera, the National Theatre in Prague, the Danish National Opera, Staatstheater Stuttgart, Nationaltheater Mannheim and Oper Bonn. He has also been a regular guest conductor at Aalto-Theater Essen and Oper Wuppertal, where he conducts both opera and ballet.
As a ballet conductor, Witt has conducted works such as Romeo and Juliet, The Nutcracker, Giselle, La fille mal gardée, The Sleeping Beauty, Swan Lake, The Taming of the Shrew, Onegin and The Winter’s Tale. In 2024 he made his debut with Dutch National Ballet and the Dutch Ballet Orchestra as conductor for part of the performance series of Annabelle Lopez Ochoa’s Frida.
In addition to his work as a conductor, Witt is also artistic director of the Landesjugendorchester Hamburg, where he shares his passion for music with talented young musicians.
